Birmingham Women\u2019s Hospital Maternity and Neonatal teams scoop prestigious Maternity Unit Miracles award

One year old Toby Swindale owes his life to miracle workers at Birmingham Women\u2019s Hospital\u2019s Maternity unit for the care they gave to him and to his Mum after a fraught pregnancy and birth. That\u2019s why they are so thrilled that the Maternity and Neonatal team have now scooped the MUM (Maternity Unit Miracles) award for the West Midlands region<\/p>\n
Amanda suffered two very difficult pregnancies and sadly lost her first daughter Erin in 2010 at 25 weeks. She went on to become pregnant once again this time with twins delivering once again when the babies were premature in 2011. Sadly Amanda lost her daughter Lauren, but her son Toby survived and after many difficult months in hospital, he was able to go home when he was 7 months old.<\/p>\n
Amanda commented, \u201cHe is a little miracle with everything he has been through and I owe my live and Toby\u2019s life to this great hospital. The hospital has been a big part of my life emotionally and I will never forget them as without them I wouldn\u2019t have my precious boy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
Chief Executive of Birmingham Women\u2019s Hospital, Professor Ros Keeton said, \u201cWe are delighted to have achieved this prestigious award and we would like to thank Amanda for nominating our unit. This award is testament to the care and dedication provided by our staff across the hospital every single day. It is fantastic to be recognised at a national level.\u201d<\/em>
Toby and his parents Amanda and Matthew Swindale joined the award winning Maternity and Neonatal teams for the awards at London\u2019s Rainforest Caf\u00e9 on 6th November. Staff attending the event were Dr Ellen Knox, Laura Fleming, Margarita Bariou and Melanie Joseph, Precious Nyagumbo, Alex Hawkes, Dr Alison Bedford Russell and Dr Vishna Rasiah.<\/p>\n
