{"id":419,"date":"2012-08-30T15:00:19","date_gmt":"2012-08-30T15:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bwnft.nhs.uk\/?page_id=419"},"modified":"2015-05-06T11:40:09","modified_gmt":"2015-05-06T10:40:09","slug":"birmingham-women-s-new-fetal-medicine-centre-receives-official-opening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bwh.timothyblake.com\/?p=419","title":{"rendered":"Birmingham Women\u2019s new Fetal Medicine Centre receives official opening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"border alignleft size-full wp-image-418\" style=\"float: left;\" alt=\"Fetalmed\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bwnft.nhs.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Fetalmed.jpg\" height=\"182\" width=\"225\" width=\"225\" height=\"182\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>The Fetal Medicine Centre at Birmingham Women\u2019s Hospital received its official opening on Friday 27<sup>th<\/sup> July. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We were delighted that MP for Edgbaston, Gisela Stuart, a strong supporter of The Women\u2019s, officially opened the new centre, joined by former patients and their families.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 12pt;\">The new \u00a3500k Fetal Medicine Centre has replaced the former unit and is the only designated Regional Centre of its kind in the West Midlands. The centre cares for over 6500 patients per annum, whose babies require investigation and treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Founded at Birmingham Women\u2019s Hospital in 1991, the Fetal Medicine Centre is both nationally and internationally renowned. Women with high risk pregnancies are referred to the centre not only regionally but from across the country due to the expertise of the centre\u2019s staff.<\/p>\n<p>Clinical Lead for Fetal Medicine, Professor Mark Kilby explained<i>, \u201cThe new centre will allow an environment, fit for the 21<sup>st<\/sup> century, for both patients and staff to manage \u2018complex\u2019 pregnancies.
