In an event dubbed ‘To the Women’s on 2 Wheels’, teams from Birmingham Women’s Hospital and Liverpool Women’s Hospital cycled over 115 miles from each other’s hospitals.
Each hospital had a team of up to 20 cyclists who completed the 115 mile journey finishing at their own hospital. The two teams began their journeys from the opposite hospital on the Saturday morning before camping together at the halfway point near to Market Drayton on the Saturday evening and then riding for home on the Sunday.
Eileen Rock, Fundraising Manager at Birmingham Women’s Hospital commented,
“It was great to join forces with Liverpool Women’s Hospital for such a great cause. Our Hospitals have a long history of providing dedicated care to thousands of women and their families and our staff are incredibly proud of the care they provide. A wide range of staff including doctors, midwives, volunteers and support staff were pedalling to raise vital funds for the Hospital Charity and we look forward to a continued partnership with Liverpool Women’s Hospital.”
17 Staff from Birmingham Women’s Hospital completed the challenge in under 14 hours over the two days averaging around 10 -15 miles per hour.
Thanks to the fantastic sponsorship from local companies as well as support provided by the staff from BikeRight who accompanied the team on their ride.
