If you are following Sat. Nav. directions, please be aware that you cannot reach the hospital from Metchley Park Road which is closed off to through traffic.

We are situated approximately three miles from Birmingham city centre in a residential area close to the University of Birmingham and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

The nearest tube stations are:

• Westminster – District, Circle and Jubilee lines (10 minutes’ walk)
• Waterloo – Bakerloo, Jubilee and Northern lines (15 minutes’ walk)
• Lambeth North – Bakerloo line (15 minutes’ walk)

By Train

There is a direct rail link from Birmingham New Street station to University station which is about a 10 minute walk away from the Hospital.

A minibus service is also available, which carries patients, visitors and staff from University station to the Birmingham Women’s Hospital

University station is on the Cross City line. Trains are approximately every 15 minutes from New Street station in Birmingham city centre (final destination: Longbridge or Redditch).  A service also runs from Hereford, stopping at University.

By Bus

The following buses stop at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital entrance which is a 5 minute walk from the Women’s Hospital

64 Birmingham to Rubery via Northfield and QE Hospital (Green Bus)

76 Solihull – Shirley – Yardley Wood – Kings Heath – Selly Park – Selly Oak – Hospital (every 20 minutes, day/30 minutes, evening)

84 Hawkesley – Kings Norton – Cotteridge – Selly Oak – Hospital (every 60 minutes)

BicycleWaterloo, Waterloo East, are the nearest railway stations, and a 10-15 minutes’ walk away. Victoria and Charing Cross are 20–30 minutes’ walk away. For more information, please call National Rail Enquiries on 08457 484 950 or visit the National Rail website.

Allow 15-20 minutes to get from the bus stop to where you need to be in the hospital. The following bus routes serve St Thomas’:

Our Hospital car parks have cycle racks that are in well-lit and patrolled areas.

Bicycle racks are located at the front of the main reception along side Gassiot House and next to the Florence Nightingale Museum, both areas are covered by CCTV. See useful cycling information on the Transport for London website.

There is a Barclays cycle hire docking station opposite St Thomas’ A&E department by Archbishop’s Park. To see where the docking station is use the interactive map and search for Archbishop’s Park. It will tell you the number of bicycles available and the number of free spaces to park your bike.

If you are driving to hospital, patient parking areas are clearly marked (outside the main hospital entrance and on the old QE Hospital Drive – Car Park D) and charged at hourly rates – please bring change with you.

If you have any queries, please speak to a member of the Q-Park staff at the Car Parking office. Car parking attendants patrol the car park 24 hours a day and all areas are covered with CCTV surveillance.

Disabled Parking

Facilities are available for all patients to be dropped off at the main entrance to the hospital along with free parking for disabled badge holders in designated disabled areas. Genetics outpatients and visitors may also park in Norton Court car park as long as they have a badge.

Free parking is also available to all patients with long-term illnesses or serious conditions requiring daily or regular treatment.

Please be aware that disabled drivers will be charged if they park on double yellow or double red lines or in a non-designated pay and display space. Our car parks are operated by QParks, and in line with the guide book issued nationally with all blue badges, free disabled parking facilities do not apply to privately operated car parks/roads and so restrictions on double lines apply to areas with emergency vehicles.

This is to ensure emergency vehicles and essential goods have access at all times.  Overall there are a total of 865 visitor spaces on the whole health campus. Of these, 290 are  spaces reserved for disabled visitor and patient parking.  There are 15 disabled spaces on the pay and display car park at the front of Birmingham Women’s Hospital and seven more available to genetics patients at Norton Court.

A little further away, there are 30 more disabled spaces are available in Car Park “D” and 12 in car park J outside the QE PET centre – immediately opposite BWH.
