Cyclists to raise funds

Local couple Sarah and Jason Williams along with fifteen friends have joined together to raise money for two local hospitals specialising in the care of babies and children. The group plan to take on a gruelling 100 mile cycle challenge to raise vital funds for, Birmingham Women’s Hospital Fetal Medicine Department and Birmingham Children’s Hospital Neurology and Neurosurgery Departments.

The group, comprising of both experienced and novice cyclists, will be completing a demanding 100 mile Cheshire to Redditch Cycle Challenge to raise much-needed funds to support the Birmingham hospital units. The event takes place on Saturday 23rd May 2015 and Sunday 24th May 2015 and features riders of all ages taking on the challenge – the youngest being just 13 years old.
The bike ride will also be combined with a “Fun Day” being held on Saturday 2nd May 2015 at the Fleece Pub in Redditch. The aim is to raise as much money as possible so that these hospitals can continue to support babies, children and families from all over the United Kingdom.

The friends decided to join together to raise funds in order to give something back to these hospitals for their amazing work. Both of the hospitals and departments have played a vital role in offering support and medical expertise to the son and family of one of the members of the cycle team, helping them through very difficult and worrying times following an uncertain diagnosis prenatally.

If you would like to come along and support the charities by joining in the fun at the Fun Day at The Fleece over the upcoming Bank Holiday Saturday, there will be lots to see and do. There will be a BBQ, Cake Stall, Bouncing Castle, Football and Golf Games, Sumo Wrestling, Disco, Raffle and much more. The event starts at 13.30 pm and will run throughout the day.

The evening disco will start at 7.30pm where the Raffle will be drawn. There are some fantastic prizes to be won and many have been donated by local companies such as Baby Swim Plus, Paws and Whiskers Spa, Cakes on Sticks, RAF Car Detailing, Vehicle Body Services, Mike Vaughan Cycles, The Fleece Inn and many more.

Jason, Sarah and Billy would like to say a massive thank you to all the local businesses that have donated prizes and everyone who has sponsored the events, as without everyone’s support we would not be able to raise these vital funds to help these amazing charities.
